Family Tree - 1880 The Hanes & Sutton's

According to the 1880 US Census, the Tompson's were now the Sampson's and the Hanes. The family live in Lincoln County Louisiana and was composed of:

  • Rose Sampsom widowed and age 33
  • Dan Hanes age 20. Dan was married and worked as farm labor
  • Marthy (Martha) Hanes age 22. She was married and a housekeeper.
  • Elton Hanes age 4. He was Rose's grandson.
  • Della Hanes age 18. Della was single and worked as farm labor
  • Alice Hanes age 15. Alice was single and worked as farm labor. (See picture below - Alice Tompson Coleman)
  • Chaney Hanes age 13. Chaney was single and worked as farm labor.
  • Bella Hanes age 12. She was single and worked as farm labor
  • S. Sampson age 10. She was Rose's daughter and single.
  • Elizia Sampson age 8. She was listed as Rose's daughter.

The Sutton's lived nearby.

  • Lewis was 69 and his wife Huldy was 37.
Rose, Lewis and Huldy could not read or write. No one was blind, deaf, dumb, idiotic or otherwise disabled. I wonder if the spelling of "Hanes" was the family spelling or the census taker's spelling.
